Before Matan Torah, the big mountains each boast why the Torah should be given on them. Only little Har Sinai stays quiet and humble, and that is exactly why Hashem chooses it.

Hello, children! Today I'll tell you a special story. Ready? The Secret of the Little Mountain Once, many years ago, when the Torah hadn't yet been given to Am Yisrael, there was a big commotion among the mountains. The news spread all over the land: Hashem is about to give the Torah, the most precious gift in the world. When the mountains heard about it, they woke up. After all, everyone wants to be the place where Hashem will give the Torah. The first to speak was Har Tavor. He stretched toward the sky and said proudly: "Look at me! I'm tall, impressive, standing alone in the middle of the Galil. Everyone sees me from far away. I'm the mountain where the army of Yisrael gathered: ten thousand fighters led by Barak ben Avinoam, before the big battle against Sisera. Fighters went out from me, and I deserve to be the mountain that gets the Torah." Har Carmel didn't stay quiet: "You? And what about me? I'm the mountain that leaped from its place to sanctify Hashem's Name. Eliyahu HaNavi davened on my peaks, and fire came down from the sky. Everyone called out: 'Hashem is G-d!' I, I'm the mountain of great emunah!" And Har Chermon, covered in snow, said: "I'm the tallest mountain in the land. All year I'm wrapped in clouds. I'm the closest to the sky. The Torah needs a place that connects to the heavens." More and more mountains joined in, each one praising its own greatness. They all bragged and showed off, calling out loud: "On me! On me! The Torah will be given on me!" But off to the side, completely quiet, stood one little mountain, simple and quiet. It didn't talk, didn't jump, didn't argue. It was Har Sinai. It looked around and thought in its heart: "What do I have to do with them? I'm small, in the desert. I have no victories, I have no nevi'im. I'm just a quiet mountain." One of the mountains shouted at it: "Sinai, are you even a real mountain? You're like a pretty hill. Go rest on the side!" But Har Sinai didn't answer. It stayed quiet, humbly. Suddenly a voice was heard from the sky. A strong voice, a great voice, the voice of Hashem: "Quiet!" The mountains went silent. "You talk about yourselves, you brag, but My Torah doesn't belong to pride. The Torah belongs to humility," the voice went on. "Specifically you, Har Sinai, who didn't show off, who didn't jump, who didn't demand, you will merit it." And then a wondrous miracle happened. The empty desert bloomed. Beautiful flowers grew on little Har Sinai. Har Sinai became a blooming garden in the middle of the desert. The mountains looked at it and couldn't believe it. And then the Shechinah came down, clouds of glory covered the mountain, thunder and lightning, a shofar. All of Am Yisrael stood at the foot of the little, quiet, blooming mountain, and the glory of Hashem came down on it. And there, right there, the Torah was given. Bye, kids! See you in the next story.
